PRESS RELEASE: Joburg Road Closures for the of opening of the Orange AFCON 2013
All roads will be leading to the iconic National Stadium for the opening of the Orange Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday, 19 January 2013.
Major roads around the stadiums will be closed to traffic to make way for enthusiastic fans attending the opening of the continental football tournament and to ensure seamless running of the traffic system to and from the stadium.
The City of Johannesburg wants all ticket holders to be able to reach the National Stadium safely and conveniently on 19 January and 10 February 2013.
A transport plan has been put in place with a number of public transport, park and ride as well as park and walk options.
"We encourage ticket holders to plan their trip to the stadium and to leave early to avoid queues and congestion," said Nthatisi Modingoane, City of Joburg spokesperson.
Roads affected will be:

Nasrec Road between Rifle Range and Main Reef Road

Soweto Motorway between Mentz Road and N1 South

Randshow Road between Nasrec Road and Aerodrome Road
In addition there would be road closures in the main arteries leading to the stadium and motorists residing in the affected areas in the vicinity of the stadium can from Thursday, 17 January collect permits from either Langlaagte Police Station or Booysens Station.
Motorist are advised to familiarise themselves with the routes, the park and ride systems as well as alternative routes they can use on the day.
The roads would be closed on Saturday from 12h30pm until 2am the following morning.
