Do you want to start your own business? The HUB is a co-working space for values-driven professionals who aim to tackle South Africa's most pressing issues in an entrepreneurial way. Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) is an initiative of the Kauffman Foundation to inspire entrepreneurship around the world.
Day 1: Monday 12 November 2012; 6 for 6.30pm to 9pm
Thought Leader Dialogue: Dr. Miriam Altman, National Planning Commission Learn how the macro economy effects the relevance of an entrepreneur and how to thrive in the complexity of change. Dr Miriam Altman, National Planning Commission and former executive director at Human Sciences Research Council, will be sharing her extensive knowledge on this topic. This day should be attended by entrepreneurs, institutional leaders, strategic thinkers and passionate South Africans
Day 2: Tuesday 13 Oct 2012, 6 pm for 6.30 pm to 9 pm
The Business of Creativity: The entrepreneurial side of music, arts and culture Creatives bring the expression of life, culture and inspiration to those around them. But how do we sustain this valuable expression? Hub member Tumi Rabanye will guide us through a discussion on how to successfully integrate entrepreneurship and creativity. This day should be attended by artists, musicians, film and media practitioners, gig-guide journalists. Insights will be offered by the panelists:
- Mpeo Makape, head of marketing, MNet
- Gugu Zuma, actress and marketing executive for Goliath Productions
- Dumi Gumbi, entrepreneur in film and animation
Day 3: Wednesday 14 October 2012, 6pm for 6.30pm to 9pm
The Role of Design in Creating Sustainable Cities Opportunities in the green economy are everywhere. But how do all industries work together to create sustainable cities and what role do entrepreneurs play in this?
This day should be attended by architects, eco-designers, urban planners, and entrepreneurs in waste management, water, renewable energy, urban farming. Join us for a panel discussion about how sustainable design is transforming the future of cities. Panelists include:
- Rehana Moosajee, MMC Transport, City of Joburg
- Hwalani Mabaso, eco-designer and founder of Shift
- Thiresh Govender, architect and founder of Urban Works
- Chris Yelland, engineer and founder of EE Publishers
Day 4: Thursday 15 October 2012, 6.00pm for 6.30pm to 9pm
The Laws of Lean Start- Up: Transforming Tech Business Lean Start-up is a framework technique that is taking the tech world by storm. Ever thought it possible to start up your business in 1 day? Join us for a workshop presented by Justin Coetsee and Richard Johnson (founder of Sancreed) to learn about these principles and how to apply them to your start up. This day should be attended by start-up entrepreneurs, particularly techies.
Day 5: Tuesday 27 Nov 2012, 6 pm for 6.30 pm to 9 pm
Getting Investor Ready: Crossing Borders
South African entrepreneurs are competing for both local and increasingly international investment as we play on a global platform. Together with U-Start, we invite you to an evening of engaging with the mind-set of investors. We will explore what it takes to get investor ready and how to position your venture attractively, both locally and abroad. This day should be attended by entrepreneurs, entrepreneurial enabling bodies, investors, SME service providers including legal, accounting, insurance and business banking service providers.
