Racism again at Sun International resort
The Congress of South African Trade Union and its affiliate SACCAWU have learned that racial attacks continue against the poor workers at Sun City during working hours.
Workers are again being accused of stealing money and subjected to strip-searches by a white racist security man who belongs to the Fidelity security company, part of the former Falcon security company which used to be in Sun City.
We are told that two white racist men have been dismissed, but the real security company remains. We have been fighting against racism at Sun City for years, but our poor workers are still faced with the same attitude from the white racist managers.
Racism is still alive at Sun City, and the management and the Sun International board continue to celebrate the racial attacks against the African black workers and the poor people of this province.
We have been quiet for too long, waiting our provincial government to intervene on the matters of our workers and their shop stewards who were dismissed for exposing racial attacks by the Guptas and workers being dismissed for exercising their workers' rights to celebrate workers day.
We are aware that our members and shop stewards were dismissed after certain individual politicians gave the instructions as they are friends or beneficiaries of the Guptas.
We have opened cases of racial attacks, sexual harassment and attempt rape, but till today nothing has happened.
The same security company refused to hand over the statement they took from one of the complainants. The same company promised workers that the case had been opened against the man from the visitors' group, but till today nothing has happened and our police never gave us feed-back.
Poor workers were highly traumatized by what took place to their co-worker.
The Guptas, and Sun International board and management, continue to celebrate as they continue to making profits out the humiliation of our poor working class.
We are now coming back to fight against the exploitation of our members.
We are demanding that our provincial government act, as per the discussions, and respond to our memorandums submitted to them in 2013. We are now calling for mass action, as part of our campaign for workers to enjoy their rights to celebrate May Day. It is our right.
We call on our government, in particular the Department of Economic Affairs, to tell us who is benefiting from Sun City; what happened to the shares that were supposed to be given to our province and benefit the poor workers who are exploited on a daily basis by bosses and a racist security company at the resort.
We are consulting our members and we will be taking a mass action against racist attitude which is continuing at Sun City.
