PRESS RELEASE: Call to young South Africans: Register to vote!
Are you tired of how much your education costs you or your parents? Broke from overpriced petrol? Worried that you will never find a job? These issues affect young South Africans even if they do not realise it.
This is why it is important for young people to vote - and to be able to vote, you must register.
Too many young people between the ages of 18 and 29 do not vote. Some do not vote because they do not feel confident about the information they receive about the parties, candidates and their issues. Some think their vote will not make a difference and most find the traditional ways of researching for information boring.
The United Democratic Movement Youth Vanguard (UDMYV) however calls on all young people, to take their ID documents and come out in their numbers to register on the 9th or 10th of November at a voting station in the voting district where they live.
To check your registration status you can:
Send an SMS with your ID Number to 32810 (SMS charged at R1.50).
Call the call centre number 0800 11 8000 (toll free from landline).
We complain about so many problems that affect young South Africans e.g. National Youth Development Agency (NYDA), job creation, etc. but if we do not vote, we have no right to complain.
Therefore the UDMYV urges all young South Africans to register to vote for a better future for all; after all, the future belongs to us.
